Geese, pigeons and moorhens are resting peacefully next each other, on their trusted Island in the middle of the Maaigemdijk at Astene. On the other side, people can walk and enjoy the view in the sunlight. For me, the curved banks of the island were a painters’ challenge. Also, the birds took position against the background of a darker tree and the other river bank, so they stand out better and I could occasionally emphasize the borders of light around their bodies.
