The Leie runs from Lys-Lez-Lannoy (France) over a distance of 202 km. to Ghent (Belgium), where it flows in the Schelde, another Flemish river. It used to be a meandering, natural river and in some places, after having rectified the entire system for transport and logistic reasons, there are still tracks of the original river that kept their serpentine like character. These original tracks can be seen in smaller villages like here in Sint-Baafs-Vijve. On a bright morning, one can find these spectacular images of the original Leie where cows use the river banks as step-down for drinking purposes.
