Lucien, painted for his daughter. I wanted him to appear as natural as possible, so a black and white starting photograph helped me in the right direction. Moreoever, he didn’t have to look into the camera, so he felt more easy to stare at the window. For these “Black and White” watercolours, I never use Black from the tube, but I’d rather compose my own black out of the basic colours.
